Rocky Mountain may be one of the newer players in the detector market but they really have their act together. The RMR-C450 is a high-end radar and laser detector masquerading as a budget beater. There are not many companies with the guts to go out on a limb with features like this. Using much simpler technology in a very clever fashion, Rocky Mountain is able to provide about $700 worth of goodies for only $249.95. And they are sometimes discounted under $200 at the bigger outlets. 
The RMR-C450 offers the most effective and inexpensive combination of scrambling tech that is available anywhere. They use the simple combination of a dual ridge waveguide and a FM chirp modulator to send a scrambled signal to the radar gun. This confuses the gun and it cannot give the officer a readout. The laser scrambler is simpler, sending out timed pulses that make the speed gun think you are always 100 feet away. Since it sees no change in distance it can’t calculate a speed. In a common-sense move for the twenty-first century, the voice alert can be programmed to react in both English and Spanish. Why don’t they all do that? And it uses a system they call SmartScan which, upon detecting a signal, continues to scan for that signal instead of repeating the scan of all the bands. This results in a very quick-reacting alarm when the time comes.
The Rocky Mountain RMR-C450 is a good fit in a lot of situations. It is compact and lightweight. It offers a broad coverage over a long range without the wasted resources of repeated false alarms. This makes it perfect for use on both the open road and crowded urban highways. It is a good indication of a buyer’s sense of value when you see him with a RMR-C450. It is the unit that every one can afford to buy and no one can afford to be without.
