Valentine One V1 Radar Laser Detector Review
Valentine One V1 Radar Laser Detector Review
Valentine has been, for many years, the manufacturer of what is widely considered to be the best radar and laser detector available anywhere. They make just one model, the V1. At $399 it is not cheap but is still competitively priced. The V1 is sold directly by the manufacturer to the public, eliminating the middle man and the added costs of markup. Additionally, the V1 cannot become obsolete as the factory will refurbish any unit to current standards whenever improvements are made available.
There are many unique features to the V1. Valentine has incorporated a patented warning system that includes two radar antennas and two laser detectors. There is one of each facing both forward and rearward. This gives the V1 a much broader range of sensitivity, as the detector can report the direction from which a signal is picked up. The circuitry in the V1 is also able to discriminate between multiple sources. The display tells you how many different sources are being picked up in addition to the direction. The factory has available any and every sort of mount or adapter that could be needed or desired. There is no moving vehicle to which the V1 cannot be adapted, including motorcycles and boats.
Car and Driver magazine regularly conducts tests of the radar detectors available in the current market. The Valentine V1 always wins these tests by a large margin. There is no environment where this detector doesn’t provide superior performance. On the open road its sensitivity is superior, picking up waiting troopers long before they can get a signal on their equipment. On crowded urban highways and surface streets the V1 refuses to give false alarms from shopping-center door-openers. In states where the use of detectors is banned, the available remote display can be used to conceal the presence of a detector. There is almost nothing that the Valentine V1 doesn’t do better than any other detector available.
