Whistler has a 38-year long history as one of the better radar detector manufacturers, certainly on the leading edge of detection technology. One of their latest – and best – offerings is the Whistler XTR-695SE multi-band radar and laser detector. What is particularly noteworthy is the price point, this top-of-the-line detector having an MSRP of less than $250, it can be found in the $150-$175 range with some judicious comparison shopping. The potential return on investment is the first time it alerts on a genuine signal. 
There are a lot of great features of the Whistler XTR-695SE above and beyond the routine alerts in the usual bands. Of particular interest is that this detector has been engineered to cope with international radar frequencies and the vertical polarization used – as opposed to the horizontal polarization common in the US. A second very strong feature is the ability to detect the Laser Atlanta R and S models operating in stealth mode. A strong third feature is often overlooked in the search for the most sensitive and accurate detectors: given that the XTR-695SE is exceptional in both those categories, the addition of the relatively mundane features of selectable colors for the display seems innocuous. However, two very bright blue alert LEDs are virtually guaranteed to get your attention, as are the seven background colors of the display that can be customized to indicate the type of signal detected.
The windshield suction cup mounting system is legendary in the business. Whistler has not changed the mounts for this device, following the simple principle: “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it!”
This detector is targeted to the driver who has their attention focused on the road and traffic around them. The XTR-695SE is unobtrusive and will not distract the driver with endless false alarms or unnecessary light and noise effects. It is every bit as professional as a commercial driver and less of a distraction in operation than the children in the back seat are to a soccer mom.
Given the price point and features, the Whistler XTR-695SE is absolutely the best choice as your next detector.
